We are reaching out as part of an effort to cut Norfolk’s carbon emission. There is potential to use funding from Dominion Energy that will be spent on energy efficiency and weatherization improvements for homes, particularly in low-income areas.
The mayor of Norfolk has joined the Global Covenant of Mayors from Climate and Energy, and as part of that has formed a Mayor’s Commission on Climate Change Mitigation. The Commission is working on an action plan to cut carbon emission from the City of Norfolk. As part of that, we are hoping there will be funding available to help Norfolk residents in low-income areas to:
Weather-strip and seal their homes to cut their utility bills
Upgrade lighting and appliances to more energy-efficient ones
Possibly even install rooftop solar with no cash outlay from the resident
This is a win-win for residents — lower utility bills and less carbon emission!
We are coming together to form a strategy to get the word out and help Norfolk residents reduce carbon emissions AND lower their energy bills through increasing home energy efficiency.
